Privacy Policy

Last updated: [[EFFECTIVE_DATE]]

This policy explains what personal information Golf Ball Performance Lab collects, why, and what rights you have over it. We've written it in plain English, because vague privacy policies are exactly the kind of thing this site exists to push back against.

Who we are

Golf Ball Performance Lab ("we", "us", "our") is an independent golf ball fitting service. It is a trading name of Ari Data Services Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales (company no. 13870857), which is the data controller for the personal information described here under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

Questions about this policy or your data: hello@golfballperformancelab.com.

The short version

  • The free fitting runs in your browser. We don't ask you to log in, and we don't store your answers against your name.
  • If you join the waitlist for the report, we keep your name and email address so we can let you know when the report launches.
  • We use basic, privacy-friendly analytics to understand how the site is used. We don't sell your data, and we don't run advertising trackers.
  • You can ask us to show you, correct, or delete your data at any time.

What we collect, and why

1. Your fitting answers (free fitter)

When you complete a fitting, your answers — things like swing speed, handicap, ball flight and your stated priorities — are processed in your browser to generate your recommendations. We do not store these answers on our servers and they are not linked to your identity. We may record anonymous, aggregated statistics (for example, the spread of swing speeds across all fittings) that cannot identify you.

Gender, if you choose to give it, is optional and is used only for anonymous statistics. It is never used to fit you a ball — your swing speed is. (See "How we score" for why.)

2. Waitlist sign-up (when available)

If you join the waitlist for the paid report, we collect your name and email address, so we can address emails to you personally and let you know when the report is available. If you choose to, you can also attach the fitting profile you generated so we can tailor your launch notification. We use this to:

  • notify you when the report is available, and
  • send you occasional, related updates if you've opted in.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email, or by emailing us.

3. Messages you send us

If you email us, we keep your message and contact details so we can reply and keep a record of the correspondence.

4. Technical and usage data

Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically records limited technical data (such as IP address, browser type and pages viewed) for security and to keep the site running. We also use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics to understand which pages are useful. This does not build an advertising profile of you.

Cookies

We use only the cookies necessary to make the site work and keep it secure. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, which is why you won't see a cookie-consent pop-up. If this ever changes, we'll update this policy and ask for your consent first.

Our legal bases for using your data

Under UK data protection law we rely on:

  • Consent — for sending you waitlist and marketing emails. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interests — for running, securing and improving the service, and for keeping anonymous, aggregated statistics. We balance this against your rights and only process what's reasonably needed.
  • Legal obligation — where we have to keep certain records.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your data and we don't share it for anyone else's marketing. We use a small number of trusted service providers ("processors") who handle data on our behalf under contract:

  • Website hosting (Vercel) — runs the site and keeps standard server logs.
  • Database (Supabase) — stores the waitlist, once that feature is live.
  • Email delivery (provider to be confirmed) — sends waitlist emails, once live.

Some of these providers are based outside the UK. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as UK-approved standard contractual clauses) to protect it. We may also disclose information if required by law.

How long we keep it

  • Free-fitter answers: not stored against you; only anonymous aggregates are retained.
  • Waitlist name, email (and profile, if given): kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, or until the waitlist purpose ends, whichever is sooner.
  • Emails you send us: kept for as long as needed to deal with your query and a reasonable period after, then deleted.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you,
  • ask us to correct anything inaccurate,
  • ask us to delete your data,
  • restrict or object to how we use it,
  • ask for a portable copy, and
  • withdraw consent at any time (without affecting earlier processing).

To exercise any of these, email hello@golfballperformancelab.com. We'll respond within the timeframe the law requires (normally one month).

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk — though we'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Children

This service is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and revise the "last updated" date above. Significant changes affecting the waitlist will be notified by email where appropriate.
